AFP-NH Applauds New Hampshire Governor for Signing Bail Reform Bill

New Hampshire Gov., John Sununu, signed into law a bill that reforms the existing bail system. The bipartisan criminal justice legislation requires judges to consider an individual’s income and ability to pay when setting bail for low-level offenses.

Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire had been supporting this bill, vocal in its advocacy.

“With the stroke of his pen, Governor Sununu has provided relief for taxpayers and protected those accused of a crime from losing their homes, cars, and jobs just because they were unable to afford bail. That our bail system’s proxy for public safety was determined by the amount of money an individual has was absurd,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH state director. “The legislature deserves immense credit for working with a broad, bipartisan coalition to develop a commonsense reform that protects the rights of the accused while safeguarding the public.”
