Coalition Urges Trump Administration to Preserve NAFTA Until New Trade Deal is Ratified and Implemented

Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, Americans for Prosperity, and the LIBRE Initiative have written a letter to the Trump administration urging officials not to dismantle the North American Free Trade Agreement until the new trade deal between Canada, the United States, and Mexico – officially known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) – is fully ratified and implemented.

These groups also took the opportunity to encourage the administration to repeal tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada and Mexico.

“Withdrawal from NAFTA prior to ratification and implementation of USMCA would trigger devastating negative economic consequences for our country,” the signees write. “It would subject America to higher tariffs and reduced market access in trade with Canada and Mexico.”
